Assessing Meaningful Learning

There are many different assessment tools that I learned about in the assignment. The assessment tools we looked at in this assignment were ePortfolios, Grading Rubrics, Clicker Tools, and Inspiration/Kidspiration software. An ePortfolio is an electronic portfolio that has a collection of assignments. An example of this would be, instead of having a final test in this class, we will be graded instead on our electronic portfolio.  An ePortfolio can allow the teacher to grade the student on what he or she did over the course of the semester by looking online. Grading Rubrics are a list of requirements for an assignment and how you are to be graded. There are website tools such as, http://www.rcampus.com/rubricshellc.cfm?mode=gallery&sms=publicrub where you can find grading rubrics online. These sights are helpful for teachers to be able to find a grading rubric that fits what they need, online. Clicker tools are used as an assessment tool for student response. It a fun and engaging way to get technology involved into the classroom. One of these tools is Quizdom. Quizdom helps get students involved, increases student participation, and gives the teacher instant feedback that they can use for grading the students.Inspiration software website is a great tool for teachers and students. This website contains diagrams, maps, graphic organizers, outlines, and lesson plans.

I have learned MANY things throughout the semester, by taking ETEC 424. Each and every week, I learned something new from working on the assignments. I learned not only about many new technologies and tools, but how to teach my students and how to use these tools in my classroom one day. Each tool I have learned about in the class, I plan on using in some way in my future classroom. Tools such as Blogs, Podcasting, Social Bookmarking, & Wikis are all great tools that I will use. I plan to use these tools for helping make education more fun and enjoyable for the students. I also would love to use websites such as Quizdom for a great resource and tool. Technology is a very important part on life and also a very important part of education. By taking this class, I have learned so much and feel prepared to help my students as well as other teachers incorporate technology in the classroom.

  3. Bethany,
I agree this class has taught me so much over the last few months! I used to shy away from technology because I did not know how to use it or know how to learn about them. I think Social Bookmarking is so awesome and had never heard of it! I have already started bookmarking websites not only for my future classroom but also wedding ideas because I am getting hitched next year. I have gained so much from this class including confidence in learning about new technological tools.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on tools for assessment and especially for sharing the website, what a nice added resource! I of course agree with every single comment you made regarding all the Web 2.0 tools we covered in ETEC 424. I have learned a great deal from taking this course and it is good to know that I am not the only one that will take quite a bit of knowledge with them after this course is over. I truly find the ePortfolio assignment to be new and a wonderfully refreshing idea. Most classes have final exams that I cram for and then do not remember the information ever again, this on the other hand, is a final project that I can always have to go back to as a resource when I finally do get my own classroom. Thanks for sharing your blogs throughout this semester, I sure did enjoy reading them.

  5. Bethany, I totally agree with you. I love all the tools that you liked. This class has made me come out of my "shell" and not be so technology "shy". I have learned a lot with the blogs, web 2.0 tools, and the Prezi presentation. I think this will make my future lessons not so dull and I can find a way to make them more entertaining and more interesting to my students that will hopefully make them focus and pay attention better. A future teacher can dream right? I do like all your ideas. I enjoyed reading all your ideas as well.
